Nutrition Expert Says Body Is Chemistry Lab, Not Bank Account

By John Ostapkovich

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – If you're looking to lose weight and feel better, it may not simply be a matter of eating less and exercising more.

The reason many dieters fail, says nutrition expert J.J. Virgin, is that the body is not a bank account but a chemistry lab so weight loss, and overall health, are about not eating a list of troublesome foods.

"What I have for the first three weeks is pull these seven foods, which are peanuts, corn, eggs, dairy, gluten, soy and then sugar and artificial sweeteners and then at the end of three weeks we track weight and symptoms," to figure out which of the seven foods are your no-no's and then create a maintenance diet, says Virgin.
The author of The Virgin Diet says cheaters need not apply.

"You can't do it halfway. You can't say I'm going to do six out of the seven foods," Virgin explains.

Virgin says gluten has gained fame for causing celiac disease but the other six can also have health harming effects.
