MIDDLETOWN, N.J. (AP) — Authorities say a man accused of stabbing a New Jersey woman in a store was previously charged with torturing a cat to death.
Authorities say 19-year-old Tyrik Haynes stabbed the woman multiple times inside the Bed Bath & Beyond store in Middletown Thursday.
The woman, whose name was not released, is in critical condition.
Haynes is held on $1 million bail, charged with attempted murder.
Chief Victor “Buddy” Amato of the Monmouth County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals tells the Asbury Park Press Haynes was accused of torching the cat to death on Christmas Eve in Middletown.
Amato says Haynes had adopted the cat from a Petco store adjacent to Bed Bath & Beyond. Amato says he was spotted outside the Petco store on Monday.
