2 Dead After South Philly Double Shooting

By Elizabeth Hur, Dan Wing and Andrew Kramer

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Philadelphia police say two men were found shot dead Friday evening in a South Philadelphia home.

Police say they found the bodies just before 6 p.m. at a home on the 600 block of Fitzgerald Street.

Authorities say the discovery was made by the mother of one of the victims, who lives across the street. She went to the home and found the bodies of the victims on the 2nd floor.

The first victim, a 44-year-old man, was reportedly found in the hallway with a gunshot wound to his head. The second victim, a 53-year-old man, was reportedly found inside the bedroom with a gunshot wound to his chest. Both were pronounced dead shortly after 6 p.m.

Sources say police recovered a gun at the scene next to the 44-year-old victim. An autopsy will be performed to determine if that gun was involved in the shooting.

According to neighbors, the two men were roommates who they say got along very well. Neighbors add they can not imagine what could have gone wrong here.

Police say while preliminary this appears to be a murder-suicide, they are still investigating.
