PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — The MLS Superdraft is set for Thursday, January 17th, and the KYW Philly Soccer Show gets you ready for it.
KYW’s Greg Orlandini and his co-host, Philly Soccer Page writer Eli Pearlman-Storch, are joined today by guest host Mike Servedio and special guest Sean Doyle, the communications director for Philadelphia Union affiliate team Reading United.
This year, Reading has eight players entering the pool for the draft. The Union has two picks in the second round, and Doyle says the team should look to strengthen its defense in the draft.
We also discuss Reading’s upcoming season in the USL-PDL Mid Atlantic Division.

In part two, the hosts talk about the future of Union captain Carlos Valdés (top photo). Reports are swirling that the Colombian defender could leave the team for a club in South America.
In the last several months, Valdés has seen his role grow with the Colombian National Team, and reports say Colombian coach José Pekerman is pushing for Valdés to move away from MLS.
We also discuss the future of another Union player, Freddy Adu. There are questions about his return as well.
And finally, we touch on the women’s game. USA striker Abby Wambach (right) was named FIFA Women’s World Player after leading the US Women’s National Team to Olympic gold. We talk about her impact on the game and discuss the new women’s league, the NWSL.
