PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Reports have suggested that Jon Gruden is interested in the Eagles head coaching job. Reports have also suggested that the Eagles aren’t interested. A former Eagles head coach thinks that’s a mistake.

“My choice would be Jon Gruden,” Dick Vermeil told 94WIP’s Anthony Gargano and Glen Macnow on Tuesday. “I just think he’s a hell of a football coach. I don’t want him to make the mistake I made, wait too long to go back.”

Vermeil coached the Eagles to a Super Bowl appearance, a loss to the Raiders in 1981.
