Amish Boy Injured After Buggy Rear-Ended By Truck In Delaware

HARTLY, Del. (AP) — An Amish teenager in Delaware has been injured after a truck rear-ended the horse-drawn buggy he was riding in.

State police say the crash happened Monday evening on Westville Road in Hartly.

Authorities say a Dodge Dakota struck the back of an Amish buggy that was in front of it. The carriage overturned on the shoulder, and a 13-year-old passenger in the buggy was taken by helicopter to the hospital.

The boy is in critical condition but the 15-year-old boy operating the buggy was not injured.

The driver of the Dakota, identified as 78-year-old Marian L. Iplenski of Hartly, was taken to the hospital for unrelated health issues. State police say she's been cited for inattentive driving.
