Due To Repair Work, I-295 South In Jersey Will Be Shut Overnight

By David Madden

CAMDEN, N.J. (CBS) – Driving Saturday night in South Jersey? Be warned. I-295 south will be shut down at the route 42 interchange from 10 p.m. through 9 a.m. Sunday morning for some maintenance work.

There's lots to do, from tree trimming and light repair to fixing barriers.

And officials thought it better to get it all done at once rather than tie things up at night, perhaps for weeks.

Detours? Easy to follow, says NJ-DOT spokesman Tim Greeley.

"We're gonna be directing 295 southbound motorists to take the exit for I-76 northbound heading up towards Camden at exit 26. Then they'll use the Market Street exit, it's the first one up from there, to u-turn back onto 76 southbound," says Greeley.

You can then continue onto the 42 freeway or get back on 295. There are signs in place several miles north of the detour to warn of what's ahead.

10,000 to 20,000 vehicles typically use the interchange on a weekend overnight.
