Drexel Looks For Second Straight Win In CAA Play

By Matt Leon

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – After struggling to a 4-8 mark in non-league play, the Dragons opened up CAA action on Wednesday with a 77-60 road win at Georgia State.  Drexel will look to go 2-0 in league play on Saturday when they host Towson at the DAC.

Drexel head coach Bruiser Flint is hopeful his team can start to build some momentum for the first time this season.

"Everything is there, we've got our opportunities to do some good things. . .  if we play," Flint tells KYW Newsradio.  "Haven't put a lot of good games together this year, so hopefully we can string a few games together."

Towson was just awful last season, finishing 1-31.  But this season they are 6-8, and they have won two straight coming into Saturday.  Flint says, simply, they are a more talented team now then they were then.

"They had some guys sitting out last year," Flint says. "(Junior forward Jerrelle) Benimon is one of the better players in the league.  The kid (junior guard) Marcus Damas, who was on the team last year, actually has played better because he just has better players around him.  But they have better talent, they're playing much better.  They're a very physical team, it's going to be a tough game."

Benimon leads the Tigers in scoring (16.4) and rebounding (11.4).  Damas is second in scoring at 9.7 points a game.

The Dragons went 15-1 at the DAC last season.  But so far this season, they are just 1-3 on their home court and Flint wants to turn that around.

"League play, you've got to win your home games and you try and sneak one or two on the road," Flint says.  "I think that's important in any conference.  Gotta control your home court, gotta defend your home court."

Drexel and Towson will tip-off at 4:00pm at the DAC on Saturday.
