PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Some members of the string bands were busy making final preparations on Monday, the day before the big Mummer’s Parade on New Year’s Day.
A few members of the Quaker City String Band started their day with an appearance on television, but for the most part, they spent the day relaxing and getting mentally ready for what will be a long day marching up Broad Street. Vince Kaulins says they got their final rehearsal in on Sunday.
“We had a drill for about two hours, worked a lot of stuff out — last minute details. It went great, everybody’s real happy, real fired up, real excited,” Kaulins says.
When asked about the details of their performance, Kaulins played it close to the vest, only tipping his hand to say they’ll be doing “Indians.” He says the show will feature plenty of surprises and that Quaker City considers itself a major contender every year. That puts a little pressure on the group, but overall, he calls the experience “tons of fun.”
