PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Band of the Scots Guard and the Black Watch 3rd Battalion will make its debut at the Kimmel Center’s Verizon Hall on January 11th at 8 p.m.
Listen to the podcast below…
“This is the type of music that you’re going to be able to feel,” says Matt Wolf, the vice president of programming at the Kimmel.
He says show titled, “Bristish Isles of Wonder,” uses bagpipes and drums to take the audience on a musical trip through time and space, paying tribute to the armed forces of Ireland, England, Wales and Scotland.
“Their first battle was the Battle of Fontenoy; they fought in the French and Indian war, the Revolutionary War. They’ve served all over the world, including in the Napoleonic Wars, the Crimean War…”
Wolf says the band’s uniforms are a history lesson.
“Every facet of the outfit that they wear is based in tradition, it’s based in honor, it’s based in service to their country.”
And the acoustics in Verizon Hall will magnify the experience.
“It’s going to be such a unique experience. It’s going to sound like they are playing around you, behind you and through you,” Wolf explains.
Tickets range from $30 to $65. For more info, visit: www.kimmelcenter.org.
