NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — New Jerseyans recovering from Superstorm Sandy can add another song to their soundtrack.
Mick Jagger dedicated “Gimme Shelter” to the Garden State as the Rolling Stones performed their “50 and Counting” concert at Newark’s Prudential Center Thursday.
Keith Richards said the group admired the way New Jerseyans were hanging tough after the storm and he told them to “keep on trucking.”
The Rolling Stones opened the sold out show with “Get Off Of My Cloud.”
The concert featured guest appearances by John Mayer and Mick Taylor. Taylor was a Stone during the 1970s.
Taylor is expected to return for the group’s second show in Newark on Saturday. That’s when Bruce Springsteen and Lady Gaga also are expected to perform.
