PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – It appears Ugly Christmas Sweater parties are gaining in popularity.

“This is bad! This is REALLY bad!” said Melissa Weiss and her co-worker as they shopped for special outfits for their office party.

“We have an unwanted gift party every year so in order to participate you have to wear an ugly sweater,” Melissa said.

A real winner caught Melissa’s eye.

“I mean it’s like crocheted or something. I don’t know! But we got some gaudy present with some glitter, gold beading, stars, a stocking,” Melissa explained.

“Everyone can walk in and say WOW this stuff is horrendous and it’s a complement,” said David Morton, the shop keeper.

Most items at the The Ugly Christmas Sweater Store are under $35. It’s located at 38 N. Third Street in Old City.
