“Latkepalooza is the Gershman Y’s take on latkes and Hannukah, and we ask some of Philadelphia’s top restaurants to make their gourmet version of the latke,” says Warren Hoffman with the Gershman Y, at Broad and Pine Streets in center city Philadelphia.

Also this Sunday, chef Tom Heck of Davio’s restaurant (111 South 17th Street, in center city) hosts the restaurant’s second annual gingerbread workshop for kids.
He says he invites his pastry chef friends over for the fun, in order to help all the kids.
“Oh my god, last year I told everybody to make a simple house,” he recalls. “Well, they came in with mansions and townhouses!”

Meanwhile, the Fishtown bakeshop “Whipped” celebrates with a sense of humor this month. Owner Zoe Lukas explains they are rolling out their Ugly Sweater Holiday Cookies.
“I think the two favorites I have right now for Hannukah and Christmas… the one for Hannukah says, ‘I love latkes,’ and then the Christmas one says ‘naughty’ or ‘nice’ and there’s a little check box, and we decide randomly which one. We usually check nice but sometimes it says naughty.”
