Flying With Gifts

By Amy E. Feldman

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - If you're flying to see loved ones for the holidays, here are some things you need to remember if you're bringing gifts with you.

We've all heard the song 'All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth', but I assure you your hosts will be surprised if that's all you show up with. If you're not the tooth fairy and are flying to family or friends, there are things you need to remember about what you can and what you can't carry on to the airplane with you.

First, you can't carry more than 3 oz of liquid with you onto a plane. But that doesn't mean just a water bottle. If you're bringing the meal, you can't carry more than 3 oz of cranberry sauce, gravy, or salad dressing.

And, as for gifts, the same holds true for perfume or cologne, gift baskets with food items like salsa or jelly, snow globes, and the perennial favorite, wine, beer, or liquor. Ditto for sporting equipment like bats or sticks, tools, or pocket knives.

And while there's no law against trying to bring gift wrapped goods onto a plane, you will likely be asked to unwrap them before getting on.

So the best bet is to put all those items into your checked baggage or better yet, ship them ahead of time, so people will be happy to see just you and your smiling face.
