PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Police are investigating a double shooting that left a 30-year-old father and his four-year-old boy injured in South Philadelphia Monday night.

It happened on the 2700 block of Daly Terrace a little after 7 p.m.

Police say a man in his twenties opened fire from the street into the back of the family mini van. At least nine shots were fired as the boy and his father and a nine-year-old girl were getting ready to go somewhere.

Authorities believe the father was the intended target. Police say he was able to stumble out of the van with his son and a family member called police.

Police say the man was shot in the back and grazed on his head. He was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where he is listed in critical but stable condition. The child was shot in the stomach, according to police. He is in critical but stable condition at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

The nine-year-old girl was not injured, according to police.

Police are searching for the suspect who they say was wearing a black hoodie and was last seen headed west on Daly Terrace.

There is no word on a motive. The investigation is continuing.
