'Elections' Tops Yahoo's 10 Most Searched Terms in 2012

By Ian Bush

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Internet search site Yahoo is out with its list of the year's top web searches, and pop culture takes a back seat to actual news!

Even though it was the biggest news story of the year, we apparently couldn't get enough of the "elections" -- the most-searched term on Yahoo over the past 11 months.

Even "political polls" made the top 10.

Yahoo says that "iPhone 5," at number two, is the first time a specific model of the smartphone landed high on the list.

Kim Kardashian spends another year in the third spot, followed by Sports Illustrated swimsuit cover model Kate Upton and another, royal, Kate.  Expect more "Middleton" typed into Yahoo next year, with a baby on the way for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Here's the full list:

  1. Elections
  2. iPhone 5
  3. Kim Kardashian
  4. Kate Upton
  5. Kate Middleton
  6. Whitney Houston
  7. Olympics
  8. Political Polls
  9. Lindsay Lohan
  10. Jennifer Lopez
