NEWARK, Del. (AP) — Newark police say a University of Delaware graduate student was knocked unconscious and suffered a broken eye socket and nose during a predawn robbery.

It happened around 5 a.m. Saturday as the 28-year-old victim was walking on North College Avenue near the CSX rail crossing.

Police say two men walked up to the woman and punched her, knocking her down. They continued to punch and kick her and fled with her purse.

Police say the woman suffered “severe trauma to her face” including the broken bones and is being treated at Christiana Hospital. The victim is from Elkton, Md.

Police are searching for the attackers and have released surveillance-camera photographs of them.
