PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Philadelphia Dance Company will perform its annual winter concert at the Kimmel Center December 7th through 9th.
This year’s theme – “Black is back!!” “Black music, Black choreographers, Black dancers. We’re back.”
Danco founder and artistic director Joan Myers Brown says this year’s performance will include the Philadelphia premier of “Moan,” a physical interpretation of the music of Nina Simone by choreographer Matthew Rushing.
“Each song has its own different story and its own different tale and it’s quite thrilling to see the dancers translate her music and her moves.”
Echoes: a Celebration of Alvin Ailey is on the repertoire and Danco’s award winning, signature ballet Suite, Otis, which celebrates the music of Otis Redding will be back by popular demand.
“The dancers are amazing and I think the program is just really an entertaining time to see dance and to just relax and feel good.”
