PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - There is a new study that is definitely going to get a great deal of attention and it is certainly controversial. The report finds that gruesome images on cigarettes actually discourage smoking.

The report from South Carolina focused on people with poor education and low income and found that when cigarette cartons and boxes had these images, it discouraged smoking.

The combination of graphic images combined with text statements was particularly effective.

Nine hundred eighty-one people were in the study and the images were quite graphic including images of tombstones.
