Area Radio Stations Go Wall-to-Wall With Holiday Music

By Paul Kurtz

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- As we turn the calendar page to December, local music radio stations are cranking up those holiday favorites.

You'll be hearing time-tested Christmas classics such as "Jingle Bell Rock" nearly nonstop if you scan your radio dial these days.

At 98.1 WOGL-FM (a sister station of KYW Newsradio), music director Tommy McCarthy (photo) says listeners have helped him compile a top ten list.

"Our listeners are our greatest bouncing board, as it were, because they're the ones who call on the request lines," McCarthy explains.  "They e-mail us, they text us about the songs they like or do not like, and so we're constantly in touch with them, (and with) our Facebook friends, as well or on Twitter."

McCarthy says there are no major surprises this year, although Maria Carey's "All I Want For Christmas Is You" has moved up to the #3 spot.

John Lennon ("Happy Christmas War Is Over") is at #10 on the list, and the Nat King Cole classic, "The Christmas Song," is #1.
