Limited Free Meter Parking In City Begins Saturday

By John McDevitt

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The City of Philadelphia offers it's annual gift of free meter parking to holiday shoppers on selected days and times. And it starts tomorrow.

It's an incentive offered by the city every year around this time to get more holiday shoppers to do their gift buying in Philadelphia rather than the malls. Many shoppers say its a good idea.

"That's one of the reasons I don't come into the city, because I can't afford the parking. I'm always going to the mall."

You won't have to feed the meter or kiosks city-wide on Saturdays after 11 a.m. now through December 29th.

The Philadelphia Parking Authority says all other parking violations will be enforced.

There will also be discounted parking on Saturdays available at six Philadelphia Parking Authority parking lots. More information at PhilaPark.org.
