PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Christmas Village in Center City officially opened for business Thanksgiving morning. For the second year, it’s across the street from the usual city hall location.
Construction on Dilworth Plaza forced the village over to LOVE Park. A giant tree stands at the center of the drained fountain. Kids were running and playing on the big green stage surrounding the tree.
Coming here is family tradition for people near and far. Tara from Cape Cod goes to the parade then the village every year.
“Cause our sister makes us — whether we want to or not. But now, we started doing it seven years ago when the kids were little and now they’re big enough that they ask to come down.”
Greg Wilkinson from West Philly comes to get an early start on Christmas shopping.
“It’s variety. We just seen hand carved wood ornaments. Each year, there’s always something added, something new.”
Everyone seems to agree that LOVE Park is the perfect location for the Christmas Village.
