NORRISTOWN, Pa. (CBS) — Malls in the Philadelphia suburbs are gearing up for what retailers hope will be a busy Black Friday that will keep cash registers ringing throughout the holiday season.
The biggest change this year at the Oxford Valley Mall in Langhorne and the Montgomery Mall in North Wales are earlier hours. Last year, they opened at 4 a.m. on Friday — this year, the doors open at midnight, giving shoppers an extra four hours to take advantage of bargains. Montgomery Mall spokeswoman Ashley Pompei says some bigger box stores in the area are opening on Thanksgiving night.
“We figured, you know, allowing for people to get here early,” she says, “and if they are already out shopping in the area stop by the mall at midnight and then they can stay here for a few hours.”
Both malls plan to use Twitter and Facebook heavily on Friday to keep shoppers aware of what is on sale at individual stores in the mall and they’ll set up what they’re calling rejuvenation stations where you can grab a cold drink and get some rest before continuing your shopping odyssey.
