Consumer Safety Organizations Rank Worst Toys Of 2012

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – With the holidays nearing, two consumer agencies have released their findings when it comes to toy safety.

World Against Toys Causing Harm, or W.A.T.C.H., has released its nominations for the annual list of the "10 Worst Toys." Similarly, the U.S. Public Interest Research Group (PIRG) has disclosed the results of its 27th annual "Trouble in Toyland" report on toy safety.

W.A.T.C.H., which has been compiling its list for 40 years, says nationally known names like The Avengers and toys being sold by large brands like Wal-Mart and Amazon.com can pose numerous safety risks. For example, a classic toy magnetic fishing game can cause small children to choke on parts, while the Toys R Us Bongo Ball has "potential for impact and other serious injuries."

Meanwhile, PIRG names some top safety concerns -- lead and magnets in toys and choking hazards caused by small parts top the list -- and lists some things consumers should look out for.
