DELAWARE (CBS) – Remember the long lines and confusion at many polling places on Election Day? A local U.S. Senator has proposed legislation that could change all that.
Delaware democrat Chris Coons calls it the “FAST Voting Act” as in Fair, Accurate, Secure and Timely.
“This bill would create a competitive federal grant program, modeled after Race To The Top, which would encourage states to aggressively pursue election reform,” says Coons.
The reform would be at every level, from registration to early voting to cutting down your wait in line.
He’d even push for an emergency plan should something like, say a hurricane, get in the way.
So how much would it cost to get states interested? Coons has not put a dollar figure on his proposal insisting his only goal here is to prevent a repeat of problems in several states, including Pennsylvania.
