PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - There are many causes of workers missing time and worker’s compensation. But the leading cause of absenteeism in this country might surprise you. It’s depression.
According to research from the National Institute of Mental Health, depression is the leading cause of non-fatal disability among people 15 to 44, and nothing else is even close. It costs the United States $53 billion each year and the major issue with depression is that it starts so early in life. Most people with depression have symptoms in their twenties.
If you suffer from depression, you need to take this evidence and realize that you are not alone. You need to get help. It can make a world of difference, but the big thing is to recognize it.
