West Chester Looks To Finish Strong At Clarion

By Matt Leon

WEST CHESTER, Pa. (CBS) -- It will be the season finale for the West Chester football team on Saturday as they take to the road to visit Clarion.

The Golden Rams are 6-4 on the season after a heart-breaking 24-23 loss to nationally-ranked Bloomsburg last week. Three of the four losses for the Golden Rams this season (including last week) have come in games against top-flight opponents that were there for the taking in the fourth quarter, but they came up short.

So how does head coach Bill Zwaan categorize this season with one game left to play?

"If I really evaluated it, I would say we had a good team, but not necessarily a great team," Zwaan tells KYW Newsradio. "Because the great teams win those games and I think we were good enough to be right there at the end on each one of those, but when you have that great year, you figure out a way to win that game in the end. And we just couldn't do that. I think we have a very good football team and on any given Saturday we can play with everybody in the region. But if you're really, truly a great team you've got to win those games and we just didn't do that this year."

Listen To Podcast With West Chester Coach Bill Zwaan:

This Clarion team is 4-6 coming into Saturday.

"Really good offensive, triple-option type team," Zwaan says. "They do it out of the zone read stuff. A quarterback (junior Ben Fiscus) who has really been playing for them for three years, really understands the system and runs it really well. Very adapt with ball-handling. Another assignment type game like it was a couple weeks ago for us against Cheyney."

West Chester was able to win that game against Cheyney easily 59-14.

Kick-off on Saturday at Clarion is set for 1:00 p.m.
