MANNA 'Pie In The Sky' Fundraiser Going On Now

By Steve Tawa

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - If you are serving pies for dessert this Thanksgiving, why not get one from MANNA, the organization that helps feed area people with life-threatening illnesses? Their 'Pie in the Sky' fundraiser is going on now.

MANNA Executive Director Sue Daugherty says every sweet treat you buy goes directly to their mission.

"Really the deal is you make a $25 donation, you get a pie. And know that when you're eating that pie, you're feeding a family of four on Thanksgiving Day."

There are five varieties: Apple, Pumpkin, Pecan, Sweet Potato and the US AIRWAYS Sky Pie.

"That's my original recipe. That's mine," says MANNA Executive Chef Keith Lucas. "It's a basic cheesecake, with lemon mixed in with vanilla, walnuts, caramel and chocolate on top. On a graham cracker crust."

MANNA hopes to sell 8,000 pies. The deadline to order at mannapies.org is next Friday, November 16th. There are 35 pickup sites throughout the Philadelphia region the Tuesday and Wednesday before Thanksgiving.
