DA Risa Ferman Campaigning For Child Abuse Victims

By Brad Segall

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (CBS) - Montgomery County DA Risa Ferman needs your vote, not for re-election (at least not now) but for an online contest that could provide a substantial amount of money for a non-profit that helps victims of child abuse.

Ferman is one of 10 honorees nationwide to be recognized by L'Oreal Paris as a Woman of Worth for her dedication to making a difference in her community. Online voting continues until the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and the honoree with the most votes will get $25,000 for her charity. Ferman co-founded Mission Kids, a child advocacy center, and she hopes this contest opens the dialogue about abuse.

"It's really not about me. It's about child advocacy centers. It's about helping children who are victims of abuse. It's about helping kids heal."

She says spending a day in New York with hair and makeup and wardrobe was certainly not a typical day for her, but if she wins, she says it would have been well worth the time. She's mounting an intense social media campaign to help increase her vote total.
