Galaxy S3 takes #1 Spot In Smartphone Market

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Strategy Analytics announced Thursday that the Samsung Galaxy S3 became the world's best-selling smartphone during the third quarter of 2012.

According to the latest research from Strategy Analytics, Apple's iPhone 4S was surpassed by the Galaxy S3 for the first time ever.

Analysts say the Galaxy S3 shipped 18 million units during the third quarter, capturing an 11 percent share of globally shipped smartphones, while Apple on shipped about 16.2 million iPhone 4S units.

According to analysts, the Galaxy S#'s best-selling position will be short-lived due to forecasted shipments for the iPhone 5.
