DOYLESTOWN, Pa (CBS) — In Pennsylvania’s 8th Congressional District, Republican incumbant Michael Fitzpatrick cruised to an easy victory on Tuesday.
Fitzpatrick faced a spirited challenge from Democrat Kathy Boockvar during the campaign, but when the initial votes showed him with a 20,000 vote lead, it was clear he was headed toward an easy victory and a second consecutive term in Congress.
“Clearly, we have a lot of work to do,” Fitzpatrick says. “We have double-digit unemployment. We’ve got incredibly burdensome national debt. We’ve got high energy prices. But the great thing about America is we know how to turn things around. We’re resilient, and we’re going to get this job done.”
Boockvar was gracious in defeat.
“I’m sorry to say that it looks like I will not be joining the House of Representatives,” says Boockvar. “The numbers are not final, but I just really want to say thank you…thank you.”
