Store Owner Robbed, Stabbed To Death In Delaware

NEWPORT, Del. (CBS) – Police in are searching for a suspect who robbed and stabbed the owner of the Penn Bantam Market in Newport, Delaware.

According to police, around 7:15 p.m. Friday a black male enter the Penn Bantam Market, located at 418 Newport Gap Pike, with a knife.

Police say the suspect jumped over the counter and began demanding money from the 57-year-old owner who has been identified as Hemantkumar Maganlal Chauhan of Newport, Delaware.

Allegedly, a physical struggle occurred and the male victim was stabbed in the chest by the suspect who fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The victim was transported to Christiana Hospital Trauma Center where he was later pronounced.

The suspect has been described as a black male wearing dark clothing and a mask covering his face.

The investigation is ongoing. Police are asking anyone with information to call 9-1-1, 302-531-5891 or 1-800-TIP-333.
