Camden County Staffers Spend Weekend Helping Atlantic County

By David Madden

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Here's proof of the concept that in times of need neighbors come to the rescue. In this case, it's county to county in helping one shore community clean up.

Camden County freeholder Ian Leonard reached out to Atlantic County officials; offering help. So all weekend, 17 Camden County staffers are working bulldozers and trucks.

"We've got three to four feet of sand in the streets, and we're basically moving that from the streets back to the ocean. Basically we're building a bridge back to the beach."

It's perhaps a little ironic that a town with multi-million dollar beachfront residences reaches out for assistance. But for Leonard, it's simply a question of going where they can do the most good.

Come Monday, they'll be back in Camden County getting ready for a possible Nor'easter next week.
