UPPER MERION TOWNSHIP, PA. (CBS) - A 90-year-old woman was found dead in her Montgomery County home Tuesday night.
Police were called out to a home in the 600 block of Charlestown Drive in the Swedeland section of Upper Merion Township after receiving a report of an unconscious woman.
When police arrived, they found the woman dead in her bed on the first floor of the home. Investigators say there were high levels of carbon monoxide in her home and that a portable gas powered generator was in use in the garage since the power went out at about midnight.
According to police, the homeowners were asleep on the third floor and were later evacuated as the Swedeland Fire Department assisted in ventilating the home.
Police say the generator was used to power a light for the elderly woman in case she needed to get up in the middle of the night.
This is at least the sixth storm-related death in Pennsylvania, according to officials.
