PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Phillies announced today that they have exercised their 2013 contract option on Carlos Ruiz, and declined options on Ty Wigginton and Jose Contreras for next season.
Ruiz’s option will pay him $5 million. Declining the options on Wigginton and Contreras will cost the Phillies $500,000 for each player.
Carlos Ruiz hit .325 in 2011 with 16 home runs and 68 RBIs, with an OPS of .935 in 114 games.
Ty Wigginton hit .235 in 2011 with 11 home runs and 43 RBIs, with an OPS of .688 in 125 games.
Jose Contreras had an ERA of 5.27 with a record of 1-0 in 17 games before missing the remainder of the season due to injury.
