PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The music is from the classic Russian film “Alexander Nevsky,” about a 13th-century military hero.
For the second time this season, the Philadelphia Orchestra will be providing the live score to a film as its playing.
First, it was “West Side Story.” Now, November 15th through the 17th, it’s “Alexander Nevsky.”
Jeremy Rothman, Vice President of Artistic Planning for the Orchestra, says it’s all about the music.
“The key to these programs is that, first and foremost, it is great music that you will hear the Orchestra in a very powerful way. And it allows the audience to hear this incredible score in Technicolor, to really match the same impact of the visual images you’ll see in the film,” Rothman explains.
