'Paranormal Activity 4' Scares Away The Box Office Competition
By Bill Wine
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Paranormal Activity 4, the fourth horror thriller in the surveillance-camera franchise, finished in first place by earning an estimated $30-million on its debut weekend.
Second place went to the holdover, Argo, the Ben Affleck suspense thriller. Its total was just under $17-million.
In third place with between $13-million and $14-million was Hotel Transylvania, while the box-office leader of the last two weekends, Taken 2, was just behind it.
And rounding out the top five was the weekend's other new release, Alex Cross, the police procedural with Tyler Perry in the title role, which earned just under $12-million.
Overall, industry-wide totals were slightly ahead of last year's pace.
