Former Republican Candidate For Del. State Senate Charged With Sexually Abusing Child

GEORGETOWN, Del. (CBS) – A Delaware candidate for state Senate has been accused of sexually abusing a child.

Eric Bodenweiser, 53, has been charged with multiple sex crimes following a criminal investigation. Bodenweiser is charged with 113 total counts of sexual abuse, including 39 counts of Unlawful Sexual Intercourse First Degree and 74 counts of Unlawful Sexual Contact Second Degree.

According to police, Bodenweiser abused the juvenile between October 1987 and August 1990.

On Monday, he turned himself into State Police at the Sussex County Courthouse, where he was arraigned and held at the Sussex County Correctional Institution on $250,000 secured bail.

Bodenweiser, the Republican candidate for Senate, suspended his campaign earlier this month.
