PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A man walking down the street in South Philadelphia had to be rescued after falling into a manhole.

Authorities say the 69-year-old man was walking in the 1200 block of Jackson Street when he fell down into an open manhole.

The victim was rescued and transported by ambulance to Jefferson University Hospital in stable condition.

It is unclear why the manhole was uncovered.
