PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Leptin is an important hormone in regulating metabolism. It is actually quite simple. If you have sufficient quantities of leptin you are less likely to be obese. But, if you don’t have enough, you can have problems with weight.

You can imagine all of the research in this area.

Leptin could be a major tool in weight management and helping with obesity issues. There have been some small breakthroughs. Scientists at the University of Michigan have figured out how leptin interacts at the cellular level with its receptor in the brain.

This doesn’t mean change is around the corner but it could be a sign we are getting closer.
