PENN VALLEY, Pa. (CBS) – Funeral services for Senator Arlen Specter will begin at noon today, at Har Zion Temple on Hagys Ford Road. Expected in attendance, Vice President Joe Biden, who not only was a long-time colleague of Specter’s in the Senate, but also used to ride the train home with him from Washington, DC.
Following funeral services, Specter will be buried at Shalom Memorial Park in Huntingdon Valley.
Specter died at age 82 at his home on Sunday from complications of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. He’s survived by his wife Joan, his sons Shanin and Steve, and four grand-daughters.
Over a fascinating career, he prosecuted teamsters officials with the DA’s office in Philadelphia, he served as counsel to the Warren Commission investigating John Kennedy’s assassination, as a senator, he took part in 14 supreme court confirmation hearings.
Services here today will be open to the public, in lieu of flowers the family’s asked donations be made to Philadelphia University or another charity.
