PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A driver is being questioned in connection with a deadly hit and run crash in Center City early Tuesday morning.
The accident happened shortly after midnight on the Spring Garden Street Bridge.
According to accident investigators, a car came off of the Schuylkill Expressway when it ran a red light and broadsided a car that was traveling westbound on the Spring Garden Street Bridge.
The impact forced the second car into a curb and it eventually flipped over on its side.
Investigators say a female passenger in the car that was struck was rushed to Hahnemann University Hospital, but was later pronounced dead. The victim’s identity was not immediately known.
A male passenger in the car that was struck was also taken to Hahnemann where he is listed in stable condition.
The driver of the striking vehicle initially tried to flee the scene on foot, but was apprehended a short distance away.
The unidentified driver is currently being questioned by police. No immediate word on charges.
The deadly incident remains under investigation.
