2-Year-Old Critically Injured In Camden Hit-Run

CAMDEN, N.J. (CBS) - A two-year-old boy is in critical condition at Cooper University Hospital after being struck by a hit-and-run driver on Sunday, according to police.

The accident happened a little after 3 p.m. on the 500 block of North 27th Street.

Authorities say the child had been playing inside All-Star Barber Shop and wandered outside while his father was getting a haircut.

When the father noticed the barbershop door was open and his son wasn't inside, he went outside to find a crowd gathered around his son.

Witnesses described the car as a four-door, tan-colored Buick Park Avenue, with a temporary registration and damage to the right passenger door.

The driver, according to witnesses, initially stopped, then sped away. Another motorist followed him but lost him at 31st and Harrison streets where the driver got of the car and walked away.

Anyone with information on the driver's identity is urged to contact the Camden Police Department at (856) 757-7420.
