PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Automotive paint supplier PPG says the most popular color nationally for vehicles this model year was white, followed by silver, then black.

Auto dealers in this area say that many times the color is determined by what type of vehicle it is.

“There’s something to be said about that red Ferrari. It kind of looks best in red maybe than in chartreuse. So there are certain colors that go with the make and model of the car,” says Kevin Mazzucola, executive director of the Auto Dealers Association of Greater Philadelphia.

He says white does seem to be the most popular overall, but it really comes down to consumer choice.

“There has been a lot of brightness and also striping. [I’ve] seen more of that coming back and individualizing. Yu red, you have blue, you have white, you have black and of course there are variations. You see a lot of metallic in some of these paints,” Mazzucola says.
