Philly Soccer Show: A Player's Coming Out Story, And A Resurgent Jack 'Mac'

By Greg Orlandini

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Last November, Montreal Impact player David Testo finally told his secret to the world: that he is a homosexual.  Nearly a year later, journalist Leander Schaerlaeckens tells the story that led up to Testo's decision to come out.

Schaerlaeckens is the first guest on the KYW Philly Soccer Show this week. KYW's Greg Orlandini and Philly Soccer Page writer Eli Pearlman-Storch talk with Leander about Testo's story, whose career all but ended with his revelation.

In part one,  Schaerlaeckens talks about Testo's struggles with his sexuality, and how it ultimately affected his career (click here to read Schaerlaeckens' article on Testo). We also discuss some of the steps being made, not only in soccer, but in other sports to help eliminate homophobia from their games.  We also discuss with Leander former Union player Michael Orozco Fiscal. Schaerlaeckens had an in-depth interview with Orozco Fiscal that paints yet another picture of the turbulent world inside the Union when Peter Nowak was coach.

In part two, Greg and Eli are joined by PhiladelphiaUnion.com writer Kevin Kinkead. The three hit upon a number of topics concerning the team.  We discuss the resurgent play of striker Jack McInerney as well as the fact the Union have won two out of three games and have a winnable game against New England Revolution this Saturday.
