WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (AP) — A police officer in northeastern Pennsylvania was shot in the leg as he tried to arrest a Philadelphia man wanted on charges of attempted homicide. Police returned fire, killing the suspect.
Wilkes-Barre police say 29-year-old Robert Montgomery opened fire as police arrived at his father’s apartment Friday morning to arrest him. One of the shots hit Sgt. Matthew Stash in the leg.
Police then shot and killed Montgomery. Montgomery’s father, also named Robert, was shot and wounded.
Stash and the elder Montgomery are being treated at a hospital.
