PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Philadelphia eatery that became famous for combining fried chicken and donuts has opened a second location in Center City.
Federal Donuts started in South Philly, serving nothing but coffee, donuts and fried chicken. Now, they’re open for business at 1632 Sansom Street. Owners say, when they step back and think about it, they’re kinda surprised how well they’ve done.
But fresh cooked, and with flavors like mint chocolate chip or Turkish Mocha, these are not your typical donuts, says Tom Henneman as he puts the final touches on the new digs:
“If you’re coming in this morning, you have to have a hot fresh donut.”
They open daily at 7am with the donuts and coffee. Then starting at 11am, they offer their fried chicken, which comes with honey glazed donuts. The chicken usually goes quickly, so they recommend you follow them on Twitter @federaldonuts.
As for the question of why fried chicken and doughnuts, well, why not?
