PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Police say a 10-year-old boy stole a van and took it for a joyride in West Philadelphia Sunday afternoon before crashing into several parked vehicles.
According to authorities, the boy stole a van that was parked along the 6200 block of Market Street shortly before 1 p.m. while the owner of the vehicle was unloading furniture. The boy removed the keys from the rear door of the vehicle, and then took the van and drove it to the unit block of 62nd Street, where he struck five parked cars.
After crashing the car, which was caught on surveillance video, the boy got out of the van and attempted to flee the scene.
Neighbors at the scene of the crash detained the juvenile driver until police arrived.
No injuries were reported.
The boy was expected to be charged with auto theft and related offenses. He was expected to be charged as a juvenile.
