Lumberton Woman Charged In $1 Million Scam

MOORESTOWN, N.J. (AP) — A southern New Jersey alternative therapy practitioner has been charged with conning $1 million out of a client.

Moorestown police say the client made the payments starting in July 2011 because she believed Lisa Gerber could prevent illness or harm from coming to her and her daughter.

The Moorestown woman went to police after she began to believe that it was a scam. Her name has not been released.

Gerber lives in Lumberton and runs Therapeutic Solutions. The Mount Laurel business provides massage therapy and other alternative-health practices. But police say the 49-year-old was seeing the client outside of her regular business.

Gerber was arrested Thursday and is being held on bail of $75,000.

Police say they're investigating whether there were other victims.
