New Sixer Dorell Wright Says Andrew Bynum Is Better Than Dwight Howard

By Spike Eskin

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – He hasn't played a minute for the Sixers yet, but you can tell small forward Dorell Wright is going to to fit in Philadelphia just fine.

The Sixers didn't have a reliable three point shooter last year, in Wright, they certainly have one of those. But his comments about Andrew Bynum will gain favor not just with the star center, but with Sixers fans as well.

"He's going to need two defenders to stop him," Wright said yesterday in his first meeting with Philadelphia press (reported by Tom Moore at this link). "I would say he's the best big man in the NBA right now, hands down." This would obviously suggest that he's a better player than the man who is usually considered the consensus #1 guy, the Lakers' Dwight Howard. Bynum's offensive game is certainly more polished, but when you're talking about the total package, Howard is given the edge by most.

Bynum as the focal point of the offense will definitely mean a chance for a big year from Wright, who led the league in three-point makes two years ago, and he knows it. "There's going to be a lot of open shots, a lot of guys driving and kicking to me on the perimeter, so I'm really looking forward to it," he told KYW's Matt Leon on Tuesday. "It's going to be a lot of fun."
